Pelvic Floor muscles are located between the tailbone and the pubic bone within the pelvis, and support the bowel, bladder, uterus, and vagina. The muscles, tendons, and ligaments help the bladder, uterus, vagina, and rectum to function correctly. Not only do the muscles help other areas function correctly, but they also play a big part in sexual health. A strong pelvic floor is responsible for pleasure during intercourse and getting your pelvic floor muscles strong can aid in improving your sex life, but also reduce the risk of incontinence.
The most common causes of a weakened pelvic floor are:
Pregnancy
Obesity
Overuse of pelvic muscles (constipation or frequent trips to the restroom)
Traumatic Injury to pelvic area
Lower levels of estrogen after menopause
Painful periods/endometriosis.
Weak pelvic floor muscles cause incontinence in the bladder and bowel, while also causing sexual difficulties such as reduced sensation, painful sex or vulval pain. In some cases, the internal organs supported by the pelvic floor, including the bladder and uterus, can slide down into the vagina creating what is called prolapse. You can strengthen your pelvic floor by doing specific exercises such as losing weight, changing your diet, or by seeking medical attention.
Chronic Pelvic Pain happens to 1 in 7 women. Some of these women are using cannabis to relieve the pain and issues, since the endocannabinoid system is present in numerous parts of the body and is particularly dense around the female reproductive system. With cannabis may be highly effective in delivering pain reduction to the pelvic region. In addition, the vagina possesses a mucous membrane that allows it to quickly absorb medicinal products allowing these conditions to be treated directly at the source. However, it is essential to use quality products to ensure that further inflammation and irritation does not occur. According to a study in 1988, researchers in London found that cannabis is up to four times more effective than aspirin at treating inflammation. That’s great news, as aspirin can result in fatal overdoses, while cannabis cannot.
Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is an increasingly reported symptom by women. A recent study by a team from the Mayo Clinic, studied 113 women. More than 20% of the 113 women stated that they use CBD or cannabis to improve one or more symptoms. Authors concluded: “To our knowledge, this is the first study in the United States, which evaluated the prevalence of cannabis use among women with CPP. Our findings show that a clinically significant percentage of women use cannabis in addition to or as an alternative to traditional therapy for chronic pain.”
CBD can help relax and soften the pelvic floor just as much as THC can. CBD is just a way to get the great benefits without the intoxicating high. There are such things as CBD or THC suppositories. Suppositories are a great product to use because as said before the vagina can absorb faster due to the mucous membrane. Topicals are a great way to be able to get immediate relieve while in pain, go ahead and rub it on your lower back and your stomach. You can ingest cannabis to relieve pain, it is known to relieve inflammation and reduce pain. Transdermal patches would be perfect for immediate relieve because you are able to directly put the patch where you have discomfort. Ingesting could be anything from edibles, pills, tinctures, smoking, vaping etc.
Strains with a high amount of CBD help reduce inflammation without getting you high. If you need to work, operate machinery, or concentrate on tasks during the day, high CBD strains are going to benefit you. For instance, the strain, Cannatonic contains less than six percent THC and will leave you calm and relaxed and is a popular strain for those with chronic pain. Harlequin, a sativa dominant hybrid, has a CBD/THC ratio of 5/2. Canna-Tsu is also a sativa dominant hybrid and is extremely very popular in providing pain relief while leaving you clear-headed and happy. However, if you want more THC or have downtime, try strains like Sour Diesel, which can give you a boost of energy and creativity. OG Kush, an indica dominant hybrid, can be great for back pain relief and muscle spasms. Try smoking or vaping in the evenings, as it also works to treat insomnia. When thinking about what is right for you, remember that THC/CBD ratios will do more for your body than just THC.
