Non-Intoxicating Cannabinoids | CBD (Cannabidiol), CBG (Cannabigerol), CBC (Cannabichromene), & CBN

Updated: Nov 2, 2022

Medical decisions should not be made based on advertising. Consult a physician on the benefits and risks of particular medical marijuana products.

What is CBD (Cannabidiol)?

Cannabis plants contain 60+, naturally occurring, active compounds called cannabinoids. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of these compounds found in all cannabis plants. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most well-known cannabinoid and is associated with marijuana’s psychoactive properties.

How does CBD work?

Decades of research have shown phytocannabinoids (CBD) to be a potent aid in supporting overall wellbeing in human bodies, achieved when CBD enhances the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

The body produces endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in your nervous system. Studies have shown that CBD may help reduce chronic pain by impacting endocannabinoid receptor activity, reducing inflammation, and interacting with neurotransmitters.

Our CBD Flower is a full spectrum plant flower that contains essential fatty acids, protein, vitamins, minerals, terpenes, aromatic molecules, and CBD. Each one of our strains has a different look and smell. They also provide slightly different effects.

What is CBG (Cannabigerol)?

CBG, or Cannabigerol, is a type of cannabinoid obtained from the cannabis plant. It is often referred to as the ‘mother’ of all cannabinoids. This is because other cannabinoids are derived from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), and acidic form of CBG.

How does CBG work?

CBG is processed by the body’s endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is made up of molecules and receptors in our bodies that are responsible for keeping our bodies in an optimal state regardless of what is going on in our external environment. Unlike CBD, CBG is thought to elicit its therapeutic effects directly through interaction with the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the brain.

CBG vs. CBD

CBG is often compared to CBD because it shares many similarities and they both act on the endocannabinoid system.

Both CBG and CBD are non-psychoactive which means they will not alter your state of mind in the way THC will. They can however reduce the psychotropic effect of THC if you consume a cannabis plant. One of the biggest differences between CBD and CBG is the quantity which is found in most cannabis plants. Most cannabis plants contain only 1% of CBG, but up to 25% of CBD.

CBD Clinical Study Dosing Recommendations *always consult your physician*

In clinical studies, researchers have used oral dosages of CBD ranging from 1 to 800mg per day with some studies using even higher dosages. The following table, provided by MedicalNewsToday.com, lists the method of administration and dosage of CBD that researchers have used to study its therapeutic effects on different medical conditions:

CBD Dosing Recommendations (Medical Condition - Dose of CBD - Form)

Anxiety - 300-600mg -Oral

Bowel Disease - 5mg twice daily - Sublingual (drops)

Type 2 Diabetes - 100mg twice daily - Oral

Pain due to cancer - 50-600mg per day - Oral

Parkinson’s Disease - 75-300mg per day - Oral

Huntington’s Disease - Up to 12 sprays per day - Nasal spray (1:1 ratio of THC:CBD)

Some people need high dosages of CBD to control epilepsy, while smaller dosages may be more effective for anxiety. Body weight is another factor patients should consider before using CBD – people who weigh less should take lower dosages. FDA approved CBD products start the dosage at 2.5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight twice daily, making a total dosage of 5mg/kg each day. After 1 week, people may increase the dosage to 5mg/kg twice daily, which is a total of 10mg/kg per day.

A CBD capsule has a specific dosage, but the dosage of oral solutions depends on volume. For example, a CBD solution containing 25mg per milliliter can provide 125mg if a patient takes a full teaspoon, which equates to 5ml.

Possible Side Effects of CBD

Research suggest that CBD has relatively low toxicity but there is limited data on the safety of CBD. Alcohol and other depressants may increase the sedation and drowsiness effect of CBD.

Noticeable side effects:

  • Drowsiness or other changes in alertness

  • Digestive issues, such as diarrhea and decreased appetite

  • Changes in mood, such as irritability and agitation

Other side effects can happen without people being aware of the cause:

  • Liver failure

  • Interactions with other medications

  • Injuries that result from mixing alcohol or other depressants and CBD

Always speak to your doctor before taking CBD, especially if you are taking other medications or have underlying medical conditions, such as:

  • Liver disease

  • Epilepsy

  • Kidney disease

  • Heart issues

  • Blood pressure issues

  • On medications that can weaken the immune system, such as cancer medications

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

Never assume that just because something is natural, it is safe – speak to your doctor or pharmacist!!
