How to Use Humidity Packs for Cannabis

Updated: Oct 25, 2022

Medical decisions should not be made based on advertising. Consult a physician on the benefits and risks of particular medical marijuana products.

What are humidity packs, and why do I need them?

Humidity packs protect cannabis from over-drying and mold, while preserving terpenes, which ensure the freshness and potency of your cannabis.

What percentage of RH do I need in a humidity pack?

The ASTM International (global governing body for industries) has declared the relative humidity level (RH) of 55%-65% to be ideal for achieving water activity (ASTM D8197).

What size humidity pack do I need?

There are different sizes of humidity packs available, depending on your needs:

1 gram humidity pack = up to 3.5 grams of cannabis

4-gram humidity pack = up to 14 grams of cannabis

8-gram humidity pack = up to 28 grams of cannabis

67-gram humidity pack = 1 pound (450 grams) of cannabis

320-gram humidity pack = 5 pounds of cannabis

Things to keep in mind…

There is no such thing as ‘too much’ with humidity packs- using more will extend the benefits but remember not to combine different RH level packs in one container.

Humidity packs start working the moment they are exposed to air- place a pack in your airtight container and reseal your container.

Cannabis buds with proper moisture content should be springy and sticky.

Humidity packs can last anywhere from 2 to 6 months depending on the type of containers used for storage and your outside environment. The packs will become stiffer and when there are minimal soft spots in the packet- it’s time to replace your packet.

There are numerous tips and suggestions on how to use and extend the life of a humidity pack available with a simple internet search.
